NHS Health Services over the Easter period

As the Easter bank holiday approaches a reminder that this can be a very busy time for NHS services.    If you have an illness, injury or need medical advice please choose the most appropriate  service for your health concern to ensure we keep A&E for those who need it most.  There are a range of other NHS services open over the holiday period:


A selection of Pharmacy’s are open over the Easter weekend to provide a dispensing service and help you with minor health concerns.

Extra GP Appointments

An extended GP service is available at the following locations on Good Friday (30 March) and Easter Monday (2 April). The extra  GP appointments are available between:

·        6.30pm – 9pm weekdays

·        10am – 3pm weekends

·        11am – 1pm Bank Holidays (including Good Friday and Easter Monday)

Hubs based at Darlaston Health Centre in Darlaston, Pinfold Health Centre in Bloxwich and Broadway Medical Practice on the Broadway. This service is for patient who have an urgent illness/injury and cannot wait for an appointment with their registered GP surgery. It is not for routine GP or nurse appointments and you don’t have to be registered at either surgery. Patients will only be seen if they have booked an appointment by calling 01922 501999. From April 3, 2018 there will be some change this service, visit for information or speak to your practice team.

NHS 111

NHS 111 is a free helpline which is available 24 hours a day, 7 day a week. A trained member of staff can provide over the phone advice and direct you to the most appropriate NHS service in your area. You should use NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice, but it’s not a life threatening situation.

Urgent Care Centres

Both Urgent Care Centres are open 7 days a week. Urgent Care Centres offers fast,  convenient and expert  care for injuries and illnesses that are urgent but not life threatening. There is no need for appointments. The Urgent care Centres are located at:

Walsall Manor Hospital
Wilbraham Road, Walsall, WS2 9PS.

Saddlers Centre,

Bridgeman Street (access via Bridgeman Street only),

Walsall, WS1 1YT.

GP State of Emergency

Extra GP appointments

You can now book an appointment to see a GP at one of three Hubs of a weekend, evening or during a bank holiday. Urgent evening and weekend appointments will be available at either Darlaston Health Centre, Pinfold Health Centre or Broadway Medical Practice.

Umbrella Medical

In the summer of 2016, we joined together with 4 other practices to become a part of the Umbrella Medical group. Our sister practices are Holland Park Surgery in Brownhills, Lichfield Street Surgery in Walsall town centre, Mossley Fields Surgery in Bloxwich, and The Limes Medical Centre in Walsall.


You can now book and cancel appointments, receive appointment reminders, and set up medication alerts on the myGP™ app. Free to download on Google Play and the Apple Store.

If you wish to manage the appointments of a child over the age of 11, please visit the practice, as this must be authorised by reception staff.

Friends and Family Test

Expert Patient Programme

The Self Care Management Programme (known as The Expert Patients Programme) aims to help participants to increase confidence, take more care of their health by learning new skills to manage their conditions better on a daily basis and ultimately improve their quality of life.
